| Precautions when using greywater
Greywater can contain pollutants
such as micro-organisms, chemical and other material which can be a health risk to the
public and to the environment.
For these reasons State
Departments of Health only permit use of greywater for gardens via sub-surface
irrigation.
Commonsense
guidelines which need to be followed include:
-
Divert greywater to waste
if washing laundry of a member of the household suffering from gastroenteritis or
incontinence.
-
Divert greywater to waste
if washing soiled nappies or chemicals from clothing, weather is wet or the ground sodden
-
Never attempt to spray,
hose or mist greywater.
-
Ensure children and/or
animals do not come in contact with greywater.
-
Always wash hands if you
come in to contact with greywater
The
GreytoGreen system is listed on the NSW Department of Health web site.
