Compounds
in Detergents & Toiletries
There are many
laundry detergents available in supermarkets suitable for
greywater irrigation.

Compounds which make some laundry products unsuitable
for greywater irrigation
Sodium
Salt (sodium) is a by-product of the manufacture of washing agents
and included in many powders as a filler. There is generally less salt in concentrated powders, and even less,
if any in liquids. Fabric softeners also contain high levels of sodium.
Phosphorus
Excessive phosphorus in greywater can be toxic to native plants and
also cause iron deficiencies.
Choose a washing agent that
has low phosphorus.
One useful product found in
washing detergents is the surfactant
Most laundry detergents
contain surfactants which are wetting agents to help clean your
clothes.
These same surfactants will act as wetting agents in
most garden soils, negating the need to introduce
wetting agents
into your garden.
Your GreytoGreen dealer will
leave details of all washing products provided by Lanfax
Laboratories and cover the issue in depth.
