Greywater
diversion
Greywater used for sub-surface irrigation is
diverted
from the laundry and (if the site is large enough), shower and bath. Kitchen waste water
is not used as it will naturally contain food particles and fats which will ultimately
prove detrimental to soils and plants. Greywater is simply diverting
(useable) domestic greywater
to the garden via a surge (buffer) tank and sub-surface drippers or the
IWT system. The picture at right shows a retrofit of the
diversion valve assembly adjacent to the washing machine.
Effective??
Sub-surface irrigation is extremely effective as it directs water to the plant root
zone. As water is emitted below the soil surface, runoff and evaporation are
avoided. Sub-surface irrigation uses 15% to 25% of the volume used with surface
watering and achieves far superior results as the sub-surface remains moist..
Independent of greywater
usage: The system doesn't necessarily divert household wastewater to
the garden whenever the washing machine is used or someone has a shower.
The system can be programmed to operate independently to irrigate garden
zones zones as and when required.
Elevated gardens?
GreytoGreen can effectively irrigate gardens up to fifteen metres higher
than the greywater source using a system specifically designed for the
the purpose.
Washing powders?
It is essential to use products with low (or zero) sodium and phosphorous content.
Every major supermarket carries environmentally friendly products.
Your GreytoGreen dealer will
cover laundry acceptable products from data supplied by Lanfax
Laboratories. Just because the words "Eco Friendly" appear on product
labels doesn't mean they are.
