GreytoGreen
diversion system?
The greywater diversion system
facilitates redirection of wastewater from the laundry and/or bathroom
to a surge-tank and subsequently sub-surface irrigation system in the
garden. Greywater is not taken from the kitchen as it contains fats and
food particles which would prove detrimental in the garden. A surge-tank
is used to collect lint and solids before the greywater enters the
irrigation system.
Factors governing method of installation
are:
-
Size of the garden to be irrigated
-
Irrigation method best suited to
garden
-
Distribution in the garden may be
zoned if necessary to allow
selective watering.
Greywater diversion systems
may only be installed in single dwellings (not in townhouses or home
units).
Diverted greywater is not
treated in any way and can only be used for sub-surface irrigation.
Irrigation of lawns is
not recommended when drippers are used (photo) as installation and maintenance of the sub-surface
(drip) irrigation system is impractical. Use of the IWT system does
allow lawn irrigation.
